Aurora has been actively engaged in occupational safety and health programs from Central and South America to Asia. These important worker safety programs involve working closely with host country Ministry of Labor officials and local businesses. They cover the full spectrum of industrial sectors. These projects began as pilot programs and now function as successful public and private partnerships.

INDIA MINE SAFETY

India has a large and geographically diverse mining industry, and a
unique blend of big and small, manual and mechanized, opencast and underground
mines. Fully
68% of all fatal accidents in the mining industry take place in coal
mining. The complexities of safety in Indian coal mines are compounded
by expansion and technological modernization.
Aurora trained mining inspectors, trade union representatives and mine managers in safety management and accident prevention. Aurora also established an Indian Mine Safety Information System (IMSIS) and an elaborate database to improve the collection, classification, maintenance, analysis, retrieval and dissemination of safety and health information to India’s 1.25 million mineworkers at over 700 mines.

In Central and South America and Asia, Aurora has developed occupational
and safety programs designed to reduce the number of workplace injuries,
accidents, and illnesses. These projects are being advanced in over
10 countries and involve working closely with Ministry of Labor officials,
developing ‘train the trainers’ programs, and designing and implementing
Employer Occupation, Safety and Health Self Assessment Tool-Kits.
